BAMBI – Shaping the Future of the Bioeconomy with Bavarian Wood

Why BAMBI?

Wood is far more than a traditional raw material – it holds the potential to become the foundation of an innovative and sustainable industry in Bavaria. With the project Market Potential of Wood-Based Bioeconomy in Bavaria (BAMBI), we aim to unlock exactly this potential: We connect companies, science, and policymakers to advance the wood-based bioeconomy in Bavaria.

Our goal: Increase value creation from locally sourced wood, strengthen regional cycles, and develop innovative business models.

BAMBI is not a study destined for a drawer – we focus on practical solutions and want to work with you to develop real business cases that establish new value chains and shape a sustainable future.

Identifying Opportunities Together – The Environmental Analysis

Where do we stand today, and where can we go from here? In the first phase of the project, we examine the entire value chain – from the forest all the way to innovative products across various sectors such as the chemical, textile, construction, and packaging industries. Through interviews with key stakeholders from a wide range of fields, we complement the mapping of the status quo and identify thematic areas with future potential. This knowledge forms the foundation for concrete innovations.

Participation Welcome – Your Ideas for a Wood-Based Future

After the analysis comes action: In workshops and dialogue formats, we bring together stakeholders from industry, research, and policymaking. Together, we assess opportunities and challenges, define market potentials, and develop solutions for concrete applications. Ideas that can be implemented quickly are especially valuable – the so-called “low-hanging fruits” that enable a fast entry into the bioeconomy.

Matchmaking for Innovation – Connecting and Taking Action Together

Success emerges where the right partners come together. That’s why BAMBI actively promotes matchmaking between companies across the entire value chain: from forest owners to wood-processing businesses to end users in industry and commerce. We strategically connect supply and demand, creating the foundation for viable collaborations and new business models.

Concrete Results – From Idea to Roadmap

At the end of BAMBI, we deliver more than just a collection of good ideas: Together with our partners, we develop a roadmap for the industrial implementation of the wood-based bioeconomy in Bavaria. We highlight where the potential lies, which framework conditions are needed, and how policymakers, industry, and science can jointly shape the biological transformation of industrial production.
