On 8 May 2025, the funding notification for the project “Market Potential of a Wood-Based Bioeconomy in Bavaria” was officially presented at the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy in Munich. State Secretary Tobias Gotthardt handed over the funding approval to the project partners in a formal ceremony.
The aim of the project is to explore the market potential of a wood-based bioeconomy in Bavaria. In doing so, it seeks to accelerate the establishment of industrial production and increase regional value creation based on the local raw material wood – in close cooperation with stakeholders from industry, science and policy.
At the heart of the project lies a clear conviction: wood is far more than a traditional raw material – it holds the potential to become the foundation of an innovative and sustainable industry in Bavaria.
The following representatives of the project team attended the handover ceremony:
During the discussion, State Secretary Gotthardt emphasized the significance of the project for Bavaria as a business location. He noted that it exemplifies how regional, biogenic raw materials can be combined with industrial innovation to create new and more sustainable value chains.
BAMBI is supported by the Free State of Bavaria as part of the Cluster Initiative and the implementation of the Bavarian bioeconomy strategy “Zukunft.Bioökonomie.Bayern.” It is a joint initiative of the Cluster-Initiative Forst und Holz in Bayern gGmbH, the Chemie-Cluster Bayern GmbH, and C.A.R.M.E.N. e.V., with expert guidance from Ludwig Lehner (.bwc management consulting GmbH) and Marina Crnoja-Ćosić (mccinnovare).
The environmental analysis and identification of relevant thematic areas are already underway, and initial interviews with stakeholders along the value chain are being conducted.
