The focus of the professorship is the development of sustainable bioprocesses involving biocatalysts like enzymes and microorganisms. Biogenic raw materials are used which do not compete with the food chain. The products are e.g. bio-based platform chemicals, biofuels, and biodegradable biopolymers. The research comprises enzymatic reactions, fermentation processes, downstream processing and bioprocess design.
