The project partners of the Horizon 2020 project POWER4BIO met for their first Cross-Visit in Hungary from the 25th to 26th of September. More than 50 experts, such as Hungarian stakeholders and representatives of the 10 partner regions, participated in the event organised by Bay Zoltán Nonprofit Ltd., representative of the region Southern Great Plain.
The first day started off with a workshop where participants had to imagine and describe a bioeconomy world of the future and afterwards discuss it regarding research, society, politics and economy. In the afternoon they visited the company Pilze-Nagy Ltd. in Kecskemét. This good practice example demonstrated how biomass can be used for the cultivation of mushrooms and in biogas plants. At the end of the day the project partners came together for a networking event in Lajosmizse.
On the second day at the National Agriculture and Food Exhibition and Fair in Budapest, the participants met three companies active in the field of bioeconomy: Herbária Zrt, Tungsram und Grapoila/Virgin Oil Pres Kft. In the afternoon a symposium on “vision and collaboration opportunities of bioeconomy-related organisations” was held. After the presentation of the Hungarian Bioeconomy Cluster by Ákos Koós, representative of Bay Zoltán Nonprofit Ltd., Dr. Dries Maes, Administration of the Flemish Region, Department of Economics, Science and Innovation, talked about policy conflicts for the bioeconomy. Dr. Adrienn Nag presented the Bioeconomy Group of the Agricultural Chamber and some best practice examples of the Hungarian bioeconomy. Akós Kristóf, representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, talked about SCAR-AKIS and BIOEAST. Representative of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, Dr. Barbara Botos’ closing speech showed possible connections between bioeconomy and climate policy.
The presentations were followed by a round table discussion with the above-mentioned speakers and Dr. Nora Hatvani, research assistant at Bay Zoltán Nonprofit Ltd. The participants discussed the importance of bioeconomy in Hungary and some good practice examples.
